New members join in the style of 1759
Cheshire Freemasons mark tercentenary with historic 1759 double initiation in London
On Thursday, June 12, 2025, the Province of Cheshire Freemasons culminated a spectacular week of tercentenary celebrations with a unique and historic event: a double initiation performed in the style of 1759 at Freemasons Hall in London.
The ambitious idea originated two years ago from Cheshire’s Masters & Masons Forum (MMF), the Provincial light blue club, led by chairman Martin Geer. What began as a concept for an extraordinary double initiation evolved into a meticulously planned theatrical performance, reflecting Masonic practices from the mid-18th century. A dedicated team was assembled, a script developed, and rehearsals commenced 15 months prior to the event, showcasing the immense commitment and hard work of all
Stanlow Lodge 6257 proudly hosted the MMF in Temple 10 at Freemasons Hall, a venue packed with 200 members from Cheshire and beyond, all gathered to support this exceptional occasion and the two candidates, Conner Ross and Daniel Kellett. The event was further distinguished by the presence of Pro Grand Master Jonathan Spence, who joined the celebrations for the second time in a week, following his visit to Chester on June 7 for the official Provincial celebratory day.
The “1759 team” delivered a truly spectacular and engaging performance. Their portrayal was marked by a blend of humour and sincerity, maintaining a solemn dignity when needed during the initiation of the two candidates.
Following the meeting, attendees moved to a festive board held within Freemasons Hall. The evening concluded with rousing speeches from both the Pro Grand Master and the Provincial Grand Master of Cheshire, David Dyson. Both dignitaries extended their heartfelt thanks and congratulations to the 1759 team for their successful performance and expressed gratitude to everyone for attending and upholding the spirit of Masonic brotherhood. In a memorable touch, the 1759 team even remained in full period costume for the dinner.
Cheshire Freemasons certainly marked their tercentenary in spectacular style.
