Cheshire Freemasons brave the elements in “Sleep Out for Tommy” to support the Royal British Legion
Sleep out for Tommy was a challenge issued by the Royal British Legion who asked that people sleep beneath the stars to support our Armed Forces community
The too many of the nation’s heroes find themselves in and was designed to support challenge didn’t aim to replicate rough sleeping, but to give an idea of the situation for many veterans that are experiencing homelessness in the UK.
A team of five dedicated freemasons from Cheshire demonstrated unwavering commitment to supporting veterans by participating in the “Sleep Out for Tommy” event. The initiative, saw the group brave both cold and wet conditions during their night escapade but their spirits were undeterred in their pursuit of a worthy cause.
The event was spearheaded by Paul Stevenson of Hilbre Lodge, whose leadership and dedication were pivotal to its success. He was supported by a committed team including, Tom Platt, Michael Ross; Zach Dahl and Paul Dutton from Hilbre Lodge who meet in Wallasey and Paul Cashin. from Broadsmith Lodge who also meet in Wallasey. Their collaborative spirit and enthusiasm were instrumental in making the event a memorable and impactful one.
Despite facing challenging weather, the participants exhibited remarkable resilience throughout the sleep-out. Their efforts culminated in a significant achievement, raising just under £1,500 for the Royal British Legion. This generous contribution will provide crucial support and assistance to veterans in need.
Michael Ross, a senior freemason commented ‘A sincere expression of gratitude is extended to all those who participated in the sleep-out and to the many individuals freemasons and the public alike, who generously sponsored the event. Their support will make a tangible difference in the lives of those who have served our country. Together, this collective effort underscores the community’s commitment to honouring and supporting veterans in their time of need.
Paul Stevenson, one of the organisers added “The conditions on the night were certainly challenging, but the camaraderie amongst the team and the knowledge that we were raising money for such a vital cause kept us going, we are incredibly grateful for the generosity of everyone who supported us. Every pound raised will help the Royal British Legion continue their invaluable work with our veterans.”
